L. Timmel Duchamp hates my story.

Maureen Kincaid Speller likes my story. (unless "magisterial" just means pompous)

Heh. So it goes.

If I had thought your story was pompous, I'd have said so. So, rest assured ... I liked your story.

I don't know how often you get this, but you've got another fan of your style. It was a weird journey learning to read you, but I found that once I did, I loved what I was reading. It reminds me of studying Latin, which probably isn't a surprise to you, but I'll tell you why.
Vellum's unique binding sunk a hook into me immediately and with your vivid force of articulation it sank deeper. But I wasn't ready for it at all. I was hopelessly lost and frustrated, all these promising characters and stories cut off or mutating with no explanation. I put it down and threw it in a drawer for a couple months. Which I suspect is the reaction of a lot of your readers.
I came back to it some time later, and this time I kept reading. I learned that just like a Latin sentence you don't know exactly whats going on unless you hold the whole story in your mind at once. And the books teach you that after you've read them. I try and try but I can't rightly put into words this fluid thing. It feels like you put pieces of yourself into each of the main characters. Sometimes I think maybe they are all just one character. It's these questions your writing provokes as well. Still, I love it. The words you use and the way you stitch them together.
So consider me one more long term fan of your always interesting writing, I want to read it all.
