Why do you think it's fascist to give Edward Snowden political asylum?

Well, that speaks to the lack of coverage of this in mainstream news.

You're quite right there's very little US mainstream coverage. That's partly because government sources have emphasized the Snowden asylum as the reason for Obama refusing to meet Putin. And that is perceived as the context for follow-up, with talk of boycotting Sochi. If the US boycotts Sochi, it will be because of Snowden and Syria, even if they talk about gay rights. If you regard asylum for Snowden as legitimate, there's no problem here.

The IOC attitude dates back if I recall correctly to the Mexico City Olympics of 1968 when the US was embarrassed at black power salutes from some its team members. Since the Olympics is such a big financial and symbolic deal, and not so much a sporting event, the link is expected dismal confirmation.

The poster is funny. But in the end, Putin's path after the counterrevolution has been about defeating Communism, a goal he shares with Hitler, even if he wants to borrow glory on Victory Day.

For the US, with its limited ability to intervene in Russia, it seems to me more important to agitate against US support for anti-gay actions in Africa, where the government and individuals have close relations.

Yeah, cause the two are mutually exclusive.

Not in principle, no.

If you don't set priorities, somebody else will set them for you.

I'm against Putin repressing gays et al. to curry favor with the Russian Orthodox Church; I'm against supporting the US in its determination to punish everyone who helps Edward Snowden, whether it's David Miranda or even Vladimir Putin; I'm against fake amateur athletics, including the national PR co-op called the IOC; I'm against Zionism.

An author's meaning can sometimes be lost, despite their best intentions, and the only way to recover it is to speak.

And sometimes it's better to just STFU when you feel that irresistible urge to tell people that they're doing it wrong.

In the time you've actually wasted straightsplaining-cum-USplaining that the above post was a waste of time better spent on the things you consider "priorities," you could have been reading this:

Or this:

And in the time I've wasted responding to you, I could probably have been doing something to sell the latest novel which--guess what!--just so happens to go in hard against US instigation of anti-gay actions in Africa on the first page. Not support, instigation.
